Some people just watch movies; Nick Infield rebuilds
them in miniature. Nick’s shadow boxes or dioramas have been
exhibited world wide in museums and shows alike and his work can be
seen in many a private collection.
The work is done completely from scratch. The
figures are made from a wire armature, and then built up with
two-part epoxy putty that dries to a very strong and solid finish
and is then ready to paint. The sets, cameras and all the other bits
and pieces are built out of brass, wood, and a dense fiberboard
called Renshape. Because of heat and other limitations, Nick uses
very little plastic and very little glue.
Nick has developed his own miniature lighting system
for his boxes. He finds it is easier to build a lamp for what he
needs to do. Consequently it can take as much as two years to finish
some of his dioramas. |
